The idea is a clever pill bottle cap and a smart dock to track pills from manufacturer to patient, and to replace human labour or large machines in the sorting and dosaging of pills.
Sorting and dosaging of pills and creating the prescribed mix of medication is labour-intensive and/or costly.
When this mix is created manually (usually either by the patient or by the caregiver or a nurse), it is a slow, labour-intensive process, and may carry the risk of damaging, contaminating or losing pills.
When the mix is created by the large machines working in hospitals, it is a safer and quicker but very costly solution, and still requires human manual interaction at some point.
The solution is a clever pill bottle cap and a smart system to track pills from manufacturer to patient, and to replace human labour or large machines in the sorting and dosaging of pills. It is an all-scale solution to pill dispensing, sorting and dosaging. The system is designed to suit all levels of safety requirements for pill dispensing, ranging from low for vitamins and supplements, higher for prescription medication, to very high for potentially dangerous, addictive medication (i.e. opioids). This is a long form text area designed for your content that you can fill up with as many words as your heart desires. You can write articles, long mission statements, company policies, executive profiles, company awards/distinctions, office locations, shareholder reports, whitepapers, media mentions and other pieces of content that don’t fit into a shorter, more succinct space.
Out-patient care and health preservation related pill dosagingWhen buying vitamins, nutritional supplements and over the counter medications in the pharmacy, the pharmacist attaches a dosaging cap on the bottle. This childproof top can be twisted 180 degrees manually in both directions, releasing pills one by one from the container. The empty containers can be returned and re-used.
For manually challenged persons dispensing is aided by a stepper motor. The motor is activated by the push of a button.
Dosaging of pills requiring controlled dispensing (i.e. opioids)When giving out medication requiring special attention or deemed addictive, dangerous or high-value (i.e. opioids) in out-patient care, the pharmacist attaches a dosaging cap to the container, which cap can be individually identified, can only be removed by an authorized user, and where the dosaging of the pills is carried out by a remotely controlled motor. Once the container is empty after documented use of all pills, the empty container can be re-used, and the remotely controlled unit can be used further when attached to another container.
In-patient care in hospitals and chronically ill patient care in their homes or in institutions. The ideal solution is when the necessary pills appear at the right time, the closest to the patient, by his/her bedside. For this we need a secure box in which we can fix a chosen number of containers onto stepper motors. Once the barcodes of the stepper motors and the containers have been matched, we can use a smartphone app or other computer app to program the doctor-prescribed therapy. The medication will appear at the required time without burdening the relatives, caregivers or nurses with this task.
